Pain or muscle tightness upon returning to normal activities does not necessarily indicate an injury. Often, the body is simply adjusting to the change in physical demand.
After a longer break, you may experience:
- muscle stiffness;
- back or neck tension;
- fatigue in the shoulder girdle;
- discomfort in the knees or ankles;
- muscle soreness after a workout;
- reduced flexibility;
- increased fatigue after physical activity.
You should be especially careful when increasing your physical activity if your activity level dropped significantly over the summer. Upper body fatigue, neck tension after a long day working at a computer, or muscle soreness after a workout are problems that can interfere with daily activities. The PRANA neck and shoulder massager was designed to provide relief in such moments; its two-way rotating massage heads mimic the pressure and kneading motions of fingers during a massage. It helps massage away tension points in the muscles, while the heating function relaxes the muscles and improves blood circulation.
Start with a lower intensity
One of the most common mistakes is wanting to immediately return to the same level of physical activity you had before your summer vacation. If you’ve been exercising less for several months, start with shorter workouts and lower intensity. Gradually increase the duration, frequency, and intensity of your workouts.
A great place to start includes:
- walking;
- light jogging;
- mobility exercises;
- cycling;
- swimming;
- light strength training.
Don’t forget to warm up
Before engaging in physical activity, take time to warm up. This helps gradually prepare your body for a higher level of physical exertion. You can start your warm-up with a few minutes of light movement, followed by dynamic exercises targeting the main muscle groups you’ll be working during your workout. If you plan to run, ride a bike, or do strength training, don’t start at full speed right away.
In the fall, many people return to longer hours of work at the computer. Sitting in one position for long periods can lead to tension in the neck, shoulder, and back muscles. In such cases, we recommend electrical stimulation to help reduce pain, strengthen muscles, and promote relaxation.
It’s important not only to set up your workspace properly but also to regularly change your body position and move around.
You can incorporate simple exercises into your daily routine:
- shoulder rotations;
- neck and shoulder girdle mobilization;
- chest-opening exercises;
- gentle back stretches;
- hip mobility exercises.
When returning to a more active lifestyle, it’s important not to forget to rest. The body needs time to adapt to the increased workload.
After physical activity, it may be helpful to:
- gently stretch the muscles you’ve worked;
- get a good night’s sleep, ensuring a more natural wake-up and a calmer bedtime routine;
- drink enough fluids;
- alternate between more intense and lighter activity days;
- monitor how you’re feeling.
The start of fall doesn’t necessarily have to mean a sudden return to intense workouts. On the contrary—it’s a great opportunity to reestablish a sustainable exercise routine. Imbalance, low mood, lack of energy, and drowsiness are often consequences that many of us face. A light therapy lamp is an excellent tool for combating these conditions.
Start with small steps: walk more, take regular breaks from sitting, set aside time for stretching and mobility exercises, gradually increase your physical activity, and don’t forget to rest.
Listen to your body—movement should become a part of your daily life, not a short-term challenge.
