DIFFUSER FOR AROMATHERAPY. HOW TO CHOOSE ONE?

Aromatherapy is a holistic treatment involving the inhalation of plant extracts. In this case, a diffuser is an electrical device that disperses selected essential oils throughout a room or home. It is one of the most popular methods of using essential oils. The diffuser emits a pleasant scent, while the essential oils heal our body, mind, and soul.

Main types of diffusers

Diffusers come in various shapes and colors, and they also differ in their operating principles. The choice of which one to use is up to us, but we make the best decisions when we have knowledge.

Ultrasonic diffuser
The ultrasonic diffuser for essential oils is one of the most popular on the market. Water is added to these devices along with the desired essential oil. Ultrasonic vibrations turn the scented water into a cold mist, dispersing it throughout the room and carrying the essential oil particles along with it.
This type of diffuser functions as a humidifier and has many additional features: cozy lighting, the ability to play music, or set a timer. Most of them have automatic on/off capabilities. All these features are designed to create an aesthetic and appealing environment. Before purchasing an ultrasonic diffuser, it's important to note that it needs regular cleaning and maintenance because essential oil residues can build up on it with regular use.

Spray diffuser
A spray diffuser breaks down essential oils into fine particles without compromising their therapeutic properties and distributes them in the air. The smallest droplets spread throughout the room, while larger ones settle back down and circulate in the same pattern. Spray diffusers can spread essential oils over a larger area, so when used every hour, the essential oil remains in the air throughout the day.

Heat diffusers
Heat diffusers use heat to disperse essential oils. A few drops of essential oil are needed, and they are heated at a low temperature (not exceeding 40°C). Heat diffusers can be electric or ceramic. Electric ones use electricity, while ceramic ones use another heat source, such as candles.

Fan diffusers
Fan diffusers operate using a small fan that disperses essential oil particles throughout the room, leaving a pleasant scent. These diffusers are inexpensive but unsuitable for large spaces and have limited therapeutic benefits. The scent they spread due to the small range of motion is easy to control.

What to consider when choosing a diffuser?
While we often choose essential oil diffusers based on aesthetics and how they fit into our decor, there are several additional things to consider before purchasing this device.

Intensity control
The more intensity modes a diffuser has, the more opportunities you have to adjust the intensity of the essential oil to your liking in your home. This is a crucial function because each room is of different sizes, and each person's nose reacts differently to scents.

Automatic shutdown
A good diffuser has an automatic shutdown function. This means that if you accidentally forget to turn it off, the diffuser will turn off on its own. A smart device with automatic shutdown will also save you electricity and essential oils.

Easy diffuser maintenance
When choosing an essential oil diffuser, it's important to pay attention not only to its appearance but also to its cleaning. The simpler the maintenance, the less time you'll spend taking care of the device. Some diffusers are almost self-cleaning, so they last longer.

Diffuser size
A portable diffuser is convenient to move from one place to another, allowing you to enjoy the benefits of aromatherapy at home, in the office, and elsewhere. Larger essential oil diffusers can be useful in large halls. Depending on the size, a diffuser covers a different area for spreading essential oils, so it's important to consider this before purchasing.

Why do you need a diffuser for your home?
Scientists have recognized that aromatherapy or essential oils work holistically and are a way to improve overall physical and psychological well-being. While essential oils have many therapeutic properties and uses, here are a few simple benefits you get without even thinking about it:

  • Essential oils have antimicrobial properties, helping protect homes from bacterial, fungal, and viral diseases.
  • Scents create an aesthetically pleasing environment, aiding relaxation after a challenging day and reducing headaches.
  • Some essential oils, like lemon oil, can act as insect repellents.
  • Suitable essential oils help you sleep and enjoy a good night's rest.
  • Our sense of smell activates emotional centers in the brain, so a good scent can help improve overall mood.

Diffuser care
Once you've chosen a diffuser, it's important not to forget to care for and clean it. While manufacturers recommend washing the diffuser every time you change the scent, often doing this once a month is enough. Here are five simple steps:

  • Remove the diffuser from the socket.
  • Pour out the remaining water.
  • Fill half of the diffuser with clean water. Add 8-10 drops of vinegar and let it run for 10-15 minutes. This will clean the inside of the diffuser and remove any oil residues.
  • Clean the ultrasonic emitting area with a cotton swab or earbud dipped in alcohol to prevent oil from clogging the ultrasonic "chip."
  • Assemble the diffuser and continue using it.
  • For daily cleaning, you can skip the third step.

While new devices are perfectly suited for our homes, and the multitude of options can be overwhelming, don't forget that this is not just an essential oil diffuser but also a decorative detail in our homes. Choose not only wisely but also stylishly!
